Put your theory to practice with the Athena Education Initiative: an innovative new program to provide an information technology component to education in human services.

In an effort to accelerate the integration and practical application of case management software for behavioral health providers such as counseling, social work, community development and mental health organizations, Athena Software has committed $2.4 million to establish the Athena Education Initiative (AEI) in North America.

The Objective of the Athena Education Initiative is to provide students in University and College Social Work, Sociology, Psychology and Community Development programs with a curriculum component that covers the practical use of an advanced, yet easy to use web-based case management / client information software system.

As Donoso Escobar, Department Chair for the Department of Sociology at Mississippi College says, “We need to give students practical experience with integrated case management software in order to maximize their abilities in the field. The Athena Education Initiative (AEI) is something we will all benefit from.”

AEI will provide participating Universities and Colleges free access* to a powerful and intuitive web-based case management application and curriculum-based learning tools to help Universities and Colleges build into their courses a technology component, where students will be able to put their learning to practice. All students will need to access the system is a web browser (like Firefox, Internet Explorer or Camino) and internet access.
Students will be able to use the application to learn first hand how to use an application to perform all aspects of typical field work- including scheduling of client appointments, the entry of session / progress notes, the completion of service/ treatment planning documents, the creation and implementation of outcomes evaluation and client satisfaction surveys, and various intake and case management processes.

Participating Universities and Colleges will receive a free 5 concurrent user license, free web hosting, course tutorials/ learning aids and instructions on how to interface with industry-leading statistical packages like SAS or SPSS in order to perform advanced statistical analyses of the outcomes, client service or demographic data.

With instant web-access and pre-packaged tutorials, implementing a technology component into social work studies is simple and hassle-free! As Penelope Case Management does not require any special software or IT support, students will be able to access the system from the classroom, lab, dorm, home or even the local coffee shop (anywhere with internet access) anytime of day, 7 days a week. Professors will be able to login to the system to quickly and easily assess their student's performance at their convenience.
